Orientation and size of the oil lines going to and leaving the turbo is important as noted on the Garrett website and turbo books. I imagine this coking happens over time and has a lot to do with the ability of the oil lines to self scavenge after the engine is turned off. If the lines self scavenge you'll get varnishing but perhaps not coking. The location of the coking happened conspicuously in the horizontal section of the oil inlet tube right above the heavy turbine exhaust housing. I went the extra effort of cutting the tube to tiny pieces for exactly that purpose: to determine the exact cause and location of the blockage in the tube. not4resaleZ found the technical service bulletin above which addressed this concern in the past so it seems pretty legit. I just wish this kind of s@#t would stop happening to me and my Z.
